Friday Night Lights
The renovations of the former Goodyear Elementary School into CrossView's permanent home are coming along well! The classrooms that will be the Children's Area are being painted and designed, the Youth Room has a stage set-up, and the Worship Center and Atrium are beginning to be put together nicely. That being said, there is still A LOT to be done over the entire campus before we can move in and have our first service, September 12th!
Every Friday night starting around 5 p.m. we host an event that we call Friday Night Lights. It is a time for volunteers to come together with paint brushes, nail guns, cleaning supplies, etc and work to get our Church into shape. We are asking that if you have some time to spare on a Friday evening that you spend it with other CrossViewers by volunteering. The best part: CHILDCARE IS PROVIDED!!
So come on out for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! (If you aren't able to come out on Fridays, you are always more than welcome to stop by the Church for volunteer opportunites. There is usually someone there until late in the evenings!)
Community Makeover
The first annual Community Makeover for Polk County was a HUGE success! We participated in service projects all over the county from July 23-25. Some of these projects included building a ramp for a home, improving stairs and a deck for another person’s home, landscaping yards, picking up trash along a residential road in Rockmart, and making improvements to the exteriors of some Rockmart schools. It was a great way for CrossView as well as 13 other churches around the county to express Jesus’ love by BEING the church! Each person who participated either in a project, or passed out water and other drinks to the volunteers, or helped in any other way throughout the weekend was certainly the hands and feet of Christ!
The weekend ended in a Worship Celebration that was held at the Nathan Dean Sports Complex the evening of July 25th. Our very own band as well as LeeAnne and Dave Ferguson provided the awesome music for the night!
Thank you again for each person who had ANYTHING to do for this year’s projects! We look forward to seeing how the Community Makeover grows annually and seeing our community impacted by His people.
2010 Homespun 5K Update
Another Homespun 5K is under CrossView’s belt! The number of participating runners/walkers increased from 150 last year to 173 this year in the adult 5K and approximately 10 for the kids 1-mile Fun Run. The Fun Run and Tot Trot were a blast for the kids who participated. We really enjoyed seeing people from all of Georgia and even neighboring states participating in the race. We had an amazing time hosting this year’s race and we look forward to putting it on again for many years in the future. Thank you so much to all of CrossView’s awesome volunteers and sponsors! The Homespun 5K would not be what it is without their sacrifice of time and energy!
Homespun 5K
The 2010 annual Homespun Festival is quickly approaching. Last year, CrossView picked up the honor of hosting the Homespun 5K Run/Walk and it was very successful. Lace up your tennis shoes, because this year we are anticipating a great turnout again! We will also be having a “Tot Trot” for kids ages 2-5 as well as a 1-Mile “Fun Run” for kids ages 5-11. Please be aware that kids of all ages are welcome to participate in the entire 5K, if so desired. The race will be held Saturday morning, July 17th; more information will be provided later. Click here to Pre-Register for the 5K and Fun Run. We look forward to seeing you all there!
Teacher Appreciation Week
During the week of May 3-7 we will be honoring our local teachers for their hard work and dedication to their careers. Teachers from Eastside Elementary, Van Wert Elementary, Rockmart Middle, and Rockmart High Schools will be treated to breakfast by CrossView one morning during that week. It is a small token of our appreciation to the educators who spend their lives teaching the next generation. More information will be provided as the week gets closer, but if you’d like to volunteer to publicly appreciate Rockmart’s teachers let us know by emailing katiem@crossviewcc.com or ashleyb@crossviewcc.com. Thank you very much!
Relay for Life Update
Friday night was an awesome opportunity for Polk County to come together to celebrate and remember those who have been inflicted with cancer. CrossView was able to raise between $2500-$3000 that was turned into Relay for Life! We had a lot of different Chili options to sell as well as drinks and snacks. Thank you to everybody who made and brought chili to sell to the participants at Relay for Life!
The softball tournament also was a huge hit at Relay this year. CrossView’s team fought hard but was ultimately defeated on the field. The good news is that there’s always next year!
The band did such a great job with the live entertainment for the evening! Thank you Tabby and guys! You never cease to amaze us.
The Survivor Lap and Luminaria service was nothing short of amazing! They were great ways to honor those who have fought and survived cancer and remember those who have lost their battles. After the Luminaria service was over, Danny led the crowd in a prayer that lifted up the families of cancer victims and the survivors. It was a perfect way to conclude a special time that night!
Thank you again to all of the volunteers and participants at Relay for Life! We love you all!
Relay for Life
Relay for Life is an event hosted by the American Cancer Society that gives communities around the world an opportunity to honor or memorialize past or present cancer patients. It also gives everyone a chance to fight back against the disease. Relay for Life (or Relay) is made up of teams who take turns walking around a track at a local park or high school. At least one person from every team should be walking at all times. This makes for an interesting time because Relay is an overnight event, lasting up to 24 hours.
There is always a Celebratory moment at Relay where people who have previously been stricken with the awful disease are invited to walk a lap known as the “The Survivor’s Lap”. It’s a special and emotional moment for every participant there to witness it. Once nighttime hits, there is a special service known as “The Luminaria Ceremony”. A candle is place inside of a bag filled with sand that bears the name of a family member or friend who has or had cancer. A lap is made in silence to honor those who have been touched by cancer and to remember loved ones who lost their battle.
CrossView has been involved with the Polk County Relay for the last 3 years and has always had an amazing turn out. We set up a tent and sell Chili and drinks which benefits the Relay for Life program. After all, walkers will be getting hungry sometime over the course of 12 hours.
The event this year is April 9-10, 2010 at the Nathan Dean Sports Complex. It will begin at 5pm Friday night and will go until 7am the following morning. The Survivor’s Lap is expected to take place at 7pm; you won’t want to miss that!! There will also be a softball tournament that will be a lot of fun! Approximately 8-10 teams are signed up this year as groups of men and women. The cost per team is $200 that is turned back into Relay for Life! The tournament will be a lot of fun for the players and spectators equally.
Please join CrossView as we help fight back against cancer! Bring yourself, your family, your friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc for a few hours of giving back. Feel free to pack a tent to get a little rest between laps! CrossView will have a firepit there in the event that the weather turns cold overnight. If you would like to sign up to bring chili, play softball, need to purchase a Luminary or have any other questions, please contact Blake Ferguson at blakef@crossviewcc.com .
Easter Sunday
April 4th, 2010 we celebrated our Risen Savior for Easter Services! It was a time for families to worship and learn more about Christ together. God showed up in a mighty way when we had 382 men, women and children attend the two services. The worship band did an amazing job at preparing everyone’s heart for the message that God gave Danny to preach. We began a new series called “Questions?” and the first topic was “Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead/Grave?” It was perfectly fitting for Easter! This Sunday we had 5 adults pray to receive Christ as well as 4 children in our Kraze area!! PRAISE GOD! That is something we won’t ever stop celebrating! God is changing lives in Rockmart and we look forward to what He has in store in the many years to come.
Easter Egg Search and Rescue
On Saturday, March 27th, CrossView hosted a fun-filled day for the Rockmart community at the Nathan Dean Sports Complex. The crowd of about 1,500 children and parents were able to enjoy lots of activities including bounce houses, face painting, egg decorating and even a 5,000 Easter Egg Search and Rescue! CrossView’s very own worship band was on hand to provide live entertainment for everyone in attendance. Overall, it was a blast for the community and volunteers who served that day! A HUGE “Thank You” goes out to our amazing volunteers who helped spread the Love of Christ!
CrossView’s New Website
Our new website is designed for easier navigation about CrossView. We have links for volunteer sign-up’s for different events throughout the year, a place to leave any prayer requests you may have, etc. If you find yourself comfortable with the new design of the website and know or hear of others who may not be as comfortable using it, please spent a few minutes showing them around. If you know of anyone who feels out of the loop, share the website or any information you find out here with them! It is our goal to have all of CrossView on the same page as far as events, news, and other important information is concerned; and with your help we can make this happen. Thank you!!
